On Tour July 28th-August 01st

Country Music Artist and Anti-bullying Spokesperson

Josey Milner

a fun plus 101

Josey Milner is part small town teen, part road-worthy country starlet, and at only 17 years old, she turned heads and changed hearts with her debut US single, “Not Pretty Enough.” The song thrust Josey into the country music spotlight, launching her anti-bullying campaign with Angels and Doves, earning her a 2013 Independent Country Music Award nomination for Promising Young Artist, a Top 10 Hottest New Artist designation, and a Number One single on the world’s first independent country music chart, Indie World.  Now, 18 and a recent Magna Cum Laude high school graduate, Josey is taking her initial successes to greater heights with “Cowgirls.”

“Cowgirls” was recorded at Awestruck Studios with her “Not Pretty Enough” production team of Micah Burdick and Matthew Russo (Hall and Oates.) Mastering engineer, Larry Gann (John Rich, Elton John) also played drums on the track, with Jimmy Mattingly (Dolly Parton, Reba, Garth) on fiddle and Smith Curry (Jason Aldean, Randy Travis) on pedal steel.  The single was  released to country radio in November, and it reached #1 on the New Music Weekly country charts and Top 75 on Music Row! “Cowgirls” is a boot-kicking, foot stomping dance anthem that had country radio fans singing along with this down-home darling…

Growing up on a small farm in Missouri, one might say that country is Josey’s pedigree.   At age 7, she began barrel racing at local rodeos, making the rodeo arena her first stage.  She started singing the National Anthem at her youth rodeos, eventually graduating to performances at PRCA rodeos across Missouri and Kansas, including the American Royal in Kansas City.  These anthem performances led to the decision for Josey to hang up her spurs and follow her dreams of country music fame.

After a main-stage performance at the 2010 Pedal Steel Convention in St. Louis, Josey followed the advice of her much older and wiser musical elders: Form a band and play everywhere you can. The Josey Milner Band became one of the most sought-after live acts in the Kansas City area.  Performing an ever-evolving and versatile mix of new country, classic country, country rock, and a little bit of Rock & Roll, Josey led the band through raucous sets at Buffalo Bill Days, Slater Fall Festival, Holden Street Fair, Timbercreek, The Landing, and numerous others, performing for sold-out crowds and claiming the title of “Kansas City’s Princess of Country Music.”

More recently, Josey has also opened standing room only shows for American Idol, Scotty McCreery, Chris Cagle, and Jon Wolfe.  She has performed at CMA Fest and the Hard Rock Café in Nashville, The Teddy Bear Festival for children’s charities, and the Nascar Kobalt 400 in Las Vegas, for Welcome Home Troops.  In November 2013, she performed for the International Music and Entertainment Association Awards, for which she was nominated in three categories: Best Country Female, Best Country Single, and Country Entertainer of the Year. She was also nominated for Shooting Star at the Nashville Universe Awards and Best Female and Artist of the Year at the Midwest Music Awards.

With international airplay, charting, live performances and awards, and even a Facebook game using her image (A Better World) and a celebrity endorsement with Piaseci MD skincare, Josey is poised for world-wide stardom.  One thing is for certain, wherever her music may take her, she will always remain the small-town girl with the rodeo spurs still hanging on her wall.  For more information on Josey Milner, please visit www.joseymilnermusic.com.

 About The Music

a fun plus 101

This single is about a "country" girl who has had a long week and now that it is Friday, there isn't anything that can keep her from going out and cutting loose. The fiddle has a strong lead in regards to the instruments, but Josey shines the brightest in every aspect. It is always great to get new music from this young lady. She has everything it takes to make it big in Nashville and hopefully they will take notice soon.

About The Book

a fun plus 101

Alice doesn’t live in the mirror.

Children’s stories are often based on some truth. Taking the classic characters of “Alice in Wonderland” to modern day influences, is it a wonder that many girls are receiving mixed messages of not only where they came from but where they are suppose to be going.

White rabbit, mad hatter, queen of hearts, the Cheshire cat, and others are known by other names but are very real influencers, directly or indirectly, in a girl’s life. Family, peers, work, the various media reflect what the “ideal woman” should be.

Alice, like all girls, growing up and coming of age, gets turned around and tugged at in many directions, and expected to handle it with the grace and elegance of a delicate flower. And how many girls do you really know are that delicate flower.

Yes, you can have it all while recognizing that you need to be comfortable and true to yourself and that you don’t have to be the “ideal woman” for anyone else but yourself.

Hello Everyone! I am very excited that  Write Indie:Musings of a Writer Geek is host today for  Author T.J.Burns (Pagan Writers Press) #Maverick #Promotions #Virtual Tour!

 On Tour May 26th-30th

(Pagan Writers Press)

T.J. has been writing stories, poems and plays for as long as she can remember. After a satisfying career as a massage therapist, at midlife she turned once again to her first love—writing. In 2008 she earned a MFA in writing from Goddard College. Today writing is both her passion and her profession.

After years of internal conflict over the fundamentalist religious teachings of her childhood T.J. came to the Goddess path when she "accidentally" attended a women's Full Moon ritual and discovered that witches were not at all what her upbringing had taught her. In both of her spiritual incarnations T.J. understands what it's like to be judged as odd, or even dangerous, by mainstream society. This understanding inspires her to write for and about those who dance to a different drumbeat—the heartbeat.

T.J. is a founding mother of a long-lived non-hierarchal New Moon Circle for women and also enjoys celebrating sacred days alone. She lives in California with her husband, three dogs and one cat. Her favorite hobby is spoiling her grandchildren.

She is also the author of The Ones Who Dance Alone: Full Moon Celebrations for the Solitary Witch.

Some secrets are meant to be buried.

Julie Gerber isn't thrilled to be pulled out of school her senior year to follow her parents halfway around the world to unearth a lost pyramid. However, when the cute British guy and the mysterious financier of their project both fight for her attention, things start to get interesting.

The pharaoh known as Djedefre was cursed for the murder of his eldest brother. The work of the archaeologists brings new secrets to light, ones that prove the fallen god-king wasn't the villain history had painted him to be. Can they prove his innocence?

As the team digs deeper into the mystery, members of the party vanish or end up dead. Someone is determined to keep the truth hidden at all costs, even 4,500 years later.

The Forgotten Pharaoh - Fact vs. Fiction- Laura Deluca

While The Forgotten Pharaoh is primarily a work of my twisted imagination, there is some truth to it.  Djedefre was a real pharaoh of the Forth Dynasty. Hearing his story on a documentary on the History Channel is what spurred the idea for this novel. I took some real facts and explained away some of the holes in history. Some of my explanations are paranormal in origin, but not all of them. Occasionally, I took some liberties for the sake of the story.  Today I will separate fact from fiction, and tell you some of the truths of Djedefre’s story.

Djedefre - The tomb of Djedefre was first discovered in the early twentieth century by French archaeologist Emile Chassinat. Because the pyramid had been destroyed as well as all the statues, it was believed for years that Djedefre had committed some horrible crime, possibly even murdering his older brother to steal his crown.  The fact that he chose to build away from Giza, the location of the Great Pyramid built by his father Khufu, also led credence to the assumption there was a rift in the family.  Because the site had already been robbed and no valuables were found, it was abandoned for decades and for all those years, Djedefre was vilified without any solid facts. Later, the area became a military zone and was off limits until only a few years ago. Then Egyptologists revisited the site to prove once and for all whether Djedefre really did murder his brother.  This is what my story is based on, but I did elaborate quite a bit about the condition of the tomb. The real tomb is destroyed inside and out, so the Egyptologists could only work with the rubble left on the site and other clues they found throughout Egypt.  They now believe Djedefre is innocent of his brother’s murder and only moved his pyramid to Abu Rawash because the location on the hill allowed it to stand taller than even the Great Pyramid.  It is thought it was once the most beautiful pyramid in all of Egypt, until the Romans invaded and repurposed the polished granite and limestone.  No one is sure how long Djedefre reigned. Some hieroglyphs suggest it was only a few years while others feel it was decades, and while there is no solid evidence as to the kind of ruler he was, they have discovered hieroglyphs  in the tomb of his niece, Meresankh (daughter of Kawab), that praised him. They also found a large boat in the tomb of his father Khufu that they now believe dispels the theory of a family spat.

Hetepheres – Hetepheres was the sister and wife of Djedefre and she added a whole new element to my story.  Initially she was only supposed to be briefly mentioned, but her tale was so intriguing I had to work it in.  First of all, she really did wear a blond wig—the only Egyptian queen we know of who did so.  This alone makes her stand out. It’s also a fact that she is the longest living queen on record for ancient Egypt and there is absolutely no record of her death. No tomb has ever been found and to date no one has any idea what happened to her. She simply vanished from the timeline. I explained her disappearance in the book, but it is purely fancy.  It is completely true that she married all three of her brothers in turn and had a daughter named Meresankh by Prince Kawab. They were indeed very close and when Meresankh died before her mother, Heterpheres gave up her tomb to her daughter. This was a great sacrifice for an Ancient Egyptian, who believed their tomb was passage to the afterlife. Much of the information we know about Heterpheres was discovered in the tomb of Meresankh which plays a huge role in The Forgotten Pharaoh.  The tomb is also one of the most well-preserved ever to be discovered and was only recently opened back up to tourism.  Inside is a lovely portrait of the fair-haired queen.

Kawab – Prince Kawab was indeed the crown prince of Egypt and first in line to succeed Khufu. He died before his father, and thus never took the crown. There is still speculation as to how he died and talk of foul play, but there is no proof that he was murdered. No one knows much about him at all, and all my speculations are purely fictional.

Khufu – Khufu is the pharaoh who built the Great Pyramid.  By some accounts, he was believed to be a tyrant who sold his own daughters into prostitution in order to raise the money to outdo his father’s pyramid.  This theory played in well with my storyline, so I went with it.

Khafre - Again, there are more questions than answers, but Khafre did succeed Djedefre to the thrown and even married Hetepheres. Some think he may have murdered Djedefre or killed him in retribution, but many of these theories have been debunked by the recent revelations at Djedefre’s tomb.

The Sphinx – No one knows for certain who built the Sphinx, but in the documentary about Djedefre, it was suggested he may have built it to honor his father Khufu. I went with this theory, but it is only a theory.

These are just a few of the things I learned in while I was studying Djedefre.  I encourage everyone to do their own fact-finding. A great place to start is the HISTORY CHANNEL'S "The Lost Pyramid" of Djedefre. The details I presented here are to the best of my knowledge, based on months of research. However, one of the exciting things about Egyptology is that new evidence comes to light all the time, so new information may be discovered. Who knows, my version may turn out to be closer to the truth than even I imagined.

In the first novel in a juicy and thrilling mystery series, homicide detective Troy Evans desperately hunts down a serial killer.

Troy Evans believes in God, but he’s seen enough evil on his job to shake his faith. Nonetheless, his loyalty to his family never wavers, and he would do anything to protect them—one of the reasons he is a workaholic.

Natalie loves her family, but she’s becoming increasingly frustrated with Troy’s job. His schedule is often hectic and unpredictable, and she’s also helping her best friend deal with some serious issues— and struggling to come clean about a secret she’s hiding from Troy.

While Natalie deals with her issues, Troy spends the majority of his time searching for a serial killer who abducted and murdered several women without rhyme or reason. Desperate to stop the murderer before more women die, he works diligently, but the killer always seems to be one step ahead of him. Then Troy comes to the awful realization that he and the killer have something in common—something that instantly sets him on a mission to end the terror…or die trying.

Dealing with Literary Rejection by Yolonda Tonette Sanders

One thing aspiring authors often have a hard time coping with is rejection. No one likes to be rejected and, yet it’s part of the process. Though being rejected by a publisher or agent may feel like the end of the road to accomplishing your dreams, it’s not. Below are three tips to help you move past rejection and on to a successful writing career.

  1. Proofread. It sounds simple, but you’d be surprised by the number of people who have major mistakes in their manuscripts. If you catch an editor on a good day, he/she may be willing to overlook some things, but it’s not worth the gamble. Invest the extra time needed to polish your work and present it in its best form. (Note: I find that it’s best to have at least two other people read it as well.)

  1. Listen. If you’re hearing the same things about your manuscript from different people, they can’t all be wrong. There may be some minor or major revisions needed, but if more than one editor/agent is telling you the same thing, take their advice and make the necessary revisions.

  1. Keep Writing. One of the hardest rejection letters is when an editor or agent says something to the effect of “It’s not right for me” or “It’s good, but it is not a good fit for us at this time,” without any further feedback as to why. The publishing world is fickle and things often change. The best thing that you can do is to keep writing. Just because one manuscript is not accepted, it doesn’t mean that your next one will automatically meet the same fate. Sometimes it may take the third book in order to get attention for the first.

Don’t let rejection crush your spirit and fill you with self-doubt. Writing is unique because it’s a skill that people can learn over time it they apply themselves. If someone doesn’t have a pleasant-sounding singing voice, no amount of practice will turn that person into a singer. If someone is not a good writer, he/she can become one over time. Keep pressing and you will find your writing skills continually improving.

Precious Blue Johnson, young, country and naive, from Lutts County, Georgia, is traveling to the energizing city of New York to search for her birth father and perhaps make history by becoming the first black ballerina. Her simple mocha skin and thick lips will put her in the center of a movement, expose secrets and unlock the past as she steps onto the stage as the Blue Butterfly. She will be guided by the vivacious and wise Ms. Ann and fall in love with the alluring Ray Silvers.

Ray brings the whole package. Enchanting eyes, a bright future as a doctor, and a willingness to love completely. To Precious, he is perfect. Except Ray’s package includes his deadly past. Will their love survive the one person who could end it all—his drug-addicted mother?

Praise for Blue Butterfly:

"What happens when Precious Blue Johnson sets out to find her father on the way to stardom?  Author Marian L. Thomas has woven a page turner that will have you wanting more.  In her book, Blue Butterfly, the author does a fantastic job developing each character and taking the reader on a ride of unexpected turns.  Blue Butterfly brings families together through past painful experiences, hidden secrets and personal agendas. Those three elements make for a wonderful and enjoyable read."

Is the world ready for a black ballerina?

By Marian L. Thomas

When the word ballerina is heard, it often invokes the image of a beautiful and radiant white woman dancing in the most graceful manner. Our mind never imagines black women as ballerinas. However, there have been five ballerinas in the world that have carved a niche for themselves and made a noticeable mark on the ballerina stage. It is these women, that I find myself taking inspiration from. Such inspiration gave birth to my newest book; “Blue Butterfly”- a heart-touching story about a black girl (Precious Blue Johnson) that fights all odds in order to become the first black ballerina.

The story unfolds when Precious Blue Johnson leaves her Georgia hometown for New York, in search of her birth father. During this journey, Precious meets the wise Ms. Ann, and falls in love with the very handsome Ray Silvers. While the stage for a heart-warming love story appears to fall in place, her real struggle will not be of the heart. It will be fought in the world of ballet, as Precious, seeks to find a place to hang her own pair of pointe shoes.

Some wonder why I selected April 4th as the day to release "Blue Butterfly". It is the anniversary of the day that Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. His fight for freedom and equality provides the back drop to the story. Part two of the book, shows how his death reached into the heart of Anya Duport, a beautiful and young white ballerina who struggles to carve out her own sense of what freedom means.

I sincerely hope that Blue Butterfly will trigger emotions of romance, love, family, friendship and even the harsh reality of betrayal. But, in the end, I hope that readers conclude the last page understanding the depth and purpose of forgiveness and the pleasure of peace

How I Combat Writer’s Block

Like all writers, I have the occasional writer’s block. At first I used to struggle terribly with getting past the block to continue and finish a project. Over the past couple of years I have discovered several ways to get beyond the block, here are a couple of things I do.

By discussing what’s going on with your novel and where you are stuck with other writer’s helps you move forward and get that project under way again. This is what I do most frequently. Don’t feel that you must discuss your project with only a writer, you can talk to anyone who is interested—you would be surprised at where you can get help from. My daughters typically help me get things moving again—they can come up with some awesome ideas and even if they can’t, the conversation usually sparks inspiration and ideas.

I have recently discovered a wonderful way to get beyond writer’s block—using pictures as writing prompts. This works very well for me. Using pictures as writing prompts not only helps you to get your mojo back, but it can also lead to ideas for other projects. There are many other ways that I deal with writer’s block. But these are my favorite and most beneficial.

Write Indie: Musings of a Writer Geek: Welcomes Scarlet Quest(Fables of Odealeous) by A.J. Martinez (Excerpt) (Maverick Promotions)

Hello Everyone! I'm very excited that Write Indie:Musings of a Writer Geek is participating as host today for Scarlet Quest(Fables of Odealeous) by Author A.J. Martinez as part of his #MaverickPromotions virtual tour!

On Tour March 24th-28th

AUTHOR A.J. Martinez

Hello there my name is A.J. Martinez and I am a fantasy author living in the state of Connecticut USA. I walk with my head as high as the clouds and my feet on the ground. I murder people for a living (fictional people that is).

My desire is to write fantasy stories that will make one soar with the wings of Icarus. To write heart pounding stories to make one wish that the pages will never end. To write stories in a world beyond Hogwarts and Middle Earth and on to the world of Odealeous. To write stories that  make one think of the stars of the night during daylight. Stories that make one see rare colors and hear sweet songs only the sirens sing by a glowing river. To tell stories where the arts of the mystic and dragons seem as though they had gone extinct. I write what I dream about and dream so that I can write.

I am quite a geek and I am a big time Anime fan.  I enjoy going to conventions with my friends and rave parties.

My favorite movie is “the matrix” I never get tire of watching it.

Blurb: Auron Fox leader of a famous mercenary band lives away from society in the outskirts of his country. When king Richard takes the throne, rivals and traitors join allegiance to frame Auron and his band of mercenaries. He is then forced by the king to go on an unpleasant journey to find a jewel that could bring chaos. However Auron suspects that the king is but a puppet for someone else’s malice plot. King Richard threatens to destroy Auron’s home if he fails to complete his task. Will the king keep his promise? Will Auron return home alive from his mission as he encounters dangerous foes? Swords, magic and summons. A tale of betrayal, survival and revenge.

A.J. Martinez- EXCERPT From Scarlet Quest

They ran through the misty forest with a bounty on their heads. They thought they could get away with it. Jump over the country border, down south and never be seen again. They made that goal impossible to reach the moment they decided to pilfer the prince’s treasure. No one in the country can get away with such a crime. Stealing from royalty meant writing your own suicide letter yet a desperate thief gives it no mind. A fool’s gold but not even the leader care to give it a second thought. It was a snatch and run. Find one valuable treasure and take it even if it means taking the foes life first. That is the mind of a thief. Anything for the money.

The twelve thieves sprinted among the trees. Never looking back, only hoping their speed would set them free from their bounty hunter. Their leader carried the prince’s treasure. “Do you think we lost them?” Asked a skinny one, his black hair in a pony and a long nose.  “I don’t know but they can’t chase us forever” said the leader.

“Boss, look up ahead” said another wearing a black headband and taller than the others. Up ahead, a river crosses their path. All twelve thieves stopped at the bank of the river. It looked deep, long to cross and there were no boulders to jump on over to the other side. “This is going to slow us down.” Said their leader. “What should we do Wolfgang?” Asked the one with the black headband. “I think we should go around. Hopefully we’ll run into some fisherman with a boat and steal it from him.” Suggested a short one. The rest just stood waiting for Wolfgang’s command.

“We are swimming across the river” said Wolfgang “Larry!” He turned to a group member behind him. Larry had a serious look on his face. Probably the silent killer of the group. “You are the best swimmer. You hold the prince’s treasure and don’t you dare lose it.”

“Whatever you say sir” responded Larry. Wolfgang threw a brown pouch over to Larry.

“Once we deliver this piece of treasure over to the queen. Our pockets will be filled with gold. Enough for the twelve of us to retire till old age.” Wolfgang and the thieves laugh at their soon to be reward.

“All the woman in the village will be begging to marry me.” Said the short one of the group.

As they all laugh, the short man began to make a gargling sound that did not blend in with the group’s laughter. The laughter subsided as they heard the awkward sound coming from the short man. “Are you alright Tom?” Asked the tall one with the black headband. They all looked at him. There was an arrow in his throat. The blood ran down his small neck and stained his clothes. Then he fell to his knees and collapsed.

“No. Not now. We were so close” Wolfgang panicked. He gazed across the river and eyeballed the area. The rest of the thieves began to panic and drew their swords, knives and throwing weapons.

Suddenly Wolfgang’s eyes caught the swift sight of an arrow flying from the other side of the river. It pierced the head of one of his thieves. The thief collapse and all the members stepped away in cowardice from the corpse. Wolfgang looked to the other side of the river and between two trees, a man nocked an arrow on his bow. “Run!” yelled Wolfgang. He began to run alongside the river following the stream and behind the first row of trees to avoid the arrows. He thought his group was following him, running right behind him as he commanded. Then he glanced back and noticed they weren’t there. He stopped behind a tree and saw his group of thieves running in the direction that they had come from. It was like working with a bunch of morons. “You imbeciles!” He roared “you’re going the wrong way. You’ll die you bunch of idiots. The band of the fox will have your head.” In frustration Wolfgang wanted to ignore them and leave by himself but then he realize. The prince’s treasure. Larry had it and he was with the rest of the thieves. So close and yet so stupid. He had to run back and prevent them from losing the treasure they worked so hard to get.

There was now nine of them running back in the direction from which they came. They thought the band of fox was suddenly approaching from the opposite direction. Oh great dragon gods. How wrong they were.

Coming from the fog, in blur view, someone on horseback emerges. All nine thieves stopped. “We’ve been tricked” said Larry. “What do we do boss?” He looked at the members and among all nine of them he realized that Wolfgang was missing. Then he began to think. This is probably the end. As he looked at the enemy on horseback coming from the fog, three more horsemen appeared. They were closing in fast.  Most men of warfare would stand their ground and fight till the end and at least die with honor. There was no honor with these men. They were thieves and so when the moment came they betrayed each other, all nine of them. Larry ran back to the river and left the rest of them to the horsemen who were on the hunt.

The first horseman tackled through them with his horse and cut off the heads of two thieves, left and right with his twin swords. He jumped off the horse and clashed swords with two more. The second horseman carried an ax. He was burly and tall. He saw one thief running away and hurled his axe at the running coward. The axe got stuck on the back of the thief’s cranium. The axe horseman jumped off his horse, he stepped on the head of the thief’s corpse and yanked out the axe.

The last two horsemen came rushing in as well. One carried a saber, pure red hair flaming on his head, different from the others. The other horseman was a woman with short black hair, slender figure, wielding a spear. “Make sure you keep one of them alive” commanded the red hair horseman. The woman jumped off her horse descending on a thief, breaking through his defense, piercing his chest. The thief fell with the weight of the woman stabbing his chest. She stomped on his face and then yanked the spear out. “You…are…a woman?” The thief groaned as he felt his life fading away. “Yes” she said “I am not your orthodox woman” and then plunged her spear again in his chest.

The red hair horseman jumped off his horse as well. As soon as his feet touched the ground he dashed among the trees with an incredible speed like that of a wolf. He moved so fast, he sliced one thief and the coward did not react to the pain until he saw the blood crimson stain on his clothes and collapse. His speed made it difficult to see where he would swing his saber. The red hair man quickly sneaked behind another two and horizontally slashed the thieves that his twin swords friend was fighting. The two thieves grunted in pain and die.

“Must you always take my fun?” Asked the man wielding two swords, disappointed he did not get to cut down the thieves. “We are not doing this for the joy Oseth.”  Answered the red hair man. Oseth saw three more thieves running away from the battlefield “those three are mine” claim Oseth. He ran after them but then he saw his friend with the big axe cleaving two of them. Oseth stopped, frowned and cuss. “Edd you big meat head I said I got them” Oseth yelled at his friend.

“This is not playtime” said Edd.

There was one more thief. Larry knew he could not win. He only held daggers to defend with. Crossing the river would only slow him down and he feared dying with an arrow in his body like his other friends. His only choice was to run.

Edd could not catch Larry. The red hair man used his wolf like speed again and ran pass Edd, the wind blew hard as he rushed. The red hair man finally caught Larry. He clutched his shirt, pulls him back and slammed the thief on the ground. The red hair man stomped on Larry’s chest, pressing him against the ground.

“I’ll do anything” begged Larry “just don’t kill me.”

“That was easier than taking a piss” commented Edd standing next to his red hair friend. They both stared down at the thief.  Larry took out a small knife hidden in his belt. Just before Larry could use the knife, Edd noticed it and stomped on the thief’s hand. Larry now had two men holding him down as he lay helplessly.

Then the woman with the spear entered the scene. “Looks like you got it all under control” she said and patted the red hair man on the shoulder “make it quick Auron. I want to go home to my sisters.”

Larry’s eyes bloomed as he heard the name “Auron.”

“Auron? You mean the Auron. The man who’s head is always on fire.”

“Shut up!” Auron stomped on Larry’s chest again, the poor thief gasped for air.

“I ask the questions and you answer” Auron commanded “You know why we are here. Make this easy for us and we will let you go unharmed.”

“What do you want Fox? What could a man of such high status want from a commoner like me?” Larry coughed still struggling to breath as Auron twist and press his foot on the Larry’s chest. “Hahaha, just look at you. Taking the life of poor men while you profit from our deaths.”

“We profit from your crime and death is your atonement. You are nothing but a low life thief that knows nothing but to pilfer. Don’t you dare accuse me for the suffering of the poor” Auron said staring down at the thief giving him time to answer.

“I believe there is one more of them” said the woman standing next to Auron.

“Let’s start with this one first” said Auron. “Give me the prince’s treasure.”

“I don’t have it” answered Larry.

“Liar! Do you think we would hunt you down without having a clue of what you did?” Edd said with his arms crossed. “We know you stole the king’s son treasure. You are probably thinking of selling it somewhere for thousands of coins.”

“I said I don’t have it!” Larry gave a half yell still unable to budge Auron’s foot from his chest. “Well then, you are of no use to us” Auron lifted his sword with the end of the blade pointing down at the thief and bluffed his intent.

“Wait!” Larry panics “I don’t have it. Someone else does.”

“Hah! I knew there were more of you” commented the woman leaning on Auron. “Where is he?”

“He ran away somewhere after one of our friends got killed with an arrow.” Larry said, hoping they would spare him with the information he provided believing he was of value.

“Yes our friend Saron scared you and led you to our direction. You thieves aren’t very smart” critique the woman stabbing the ground with her spear to stand her weapon. Auron turned his head to Edd “do you think Saron let the others get away?” he asked.

“I don’t think so but I will go and look for him. That midget probably took them down already hahaha.” Edd answered and walked away towards the river. He then saw the bushes move and rattle.  He assumed another thief was approaching. The three bounty hunters ready their weapons again and once the person from the bushes revealed…it was Saron. He was short probably four inches lower than the rest of them. He carried a bow and arrows with daggers and small knifes sheathed in his belt. He dragged an injured man out of the bushes with an arrow in the man’s right foot and in his thigh. It was Wolfgang.

“He has it.” Said Larry pointing at Wolfgang “he has the prince’s treasure. He was running away with it.”

“God damn you Larry” Wolfgang snarled. “I hope the band of the fox kills you first so I can watch you die, traitor.”

“What a pitiful group” said Oseth several feet away, resting his back on a tree with both hands behind his head comfortably, one leg over the other and his twin swords resting on his lap. Quite the relaxer. He watched them from afar letting the team do the problem solving. “I have seen better team work from a pack of wild dogs.  You thieves are something special.” Oseth said sarcastically as he usually would. His friends hated his laziness but he is always of great aid due to his skills with the sword and his fire magic. Oseth didn’t take much seriously. “Hurry it up mates and let’s get something to eat. I think my stomach is eating my insides.” He says.

“Remind me again why you keep him around Auron?” Asks the woman with a mid angry tone of voice

“Leave him alone Genie. He does what he is supposed to do and does it well” Auron tells Genie. Although the rest of the team was not so fond of Oseth’s work ethic, Auron always defended him for some strange reason. Auron kept the fire going in the team as the leader of the band of the fox. The most famous and feared mercenary band of Burnahdujf and the south country.

“Saron, bring the thief over here” Auron commanded. Saron dragged Wolfgang’s body to Auron and tossed the thief on the floor next the Larry. As soon as Wolfgang was positioned next to Larry he backed punched the coward with his left fist. The two thieves began to fight on the ground and bicker over their immature team work and failure, like children fighting over a toy. Saron and Edd hauled them up and force them to face Auron. They stared into the blue eyes of the red hair mercenary and lightly shudder.

“Genie, check their pockets.” Auron order his female band member. She dug into the pockets of Wolfgang’s dirty brown pants. They were empty. “Hey pretty girl, you can search more than my pockets if you want hehehe.” Said the dirty thief. Genie ignore him and moved on to Larry. Genie dug her hands into Larry’s pockets. She felt something solid. She grabbed it and pulled it out of the thief’s pocket. It was a pendant, black and purple with small diamonds around the center jewel being held by a gold and silver base. “It’s beautiful” she murmurs with a slight smile. She turned to Wolfgang and her feeble smile turned to a frown. She then delivered a kick between Larry’s legs. The thief then gasp for air and fix his hands between his legs as he fell to the ground being release from Edd’s grasp.

“That was uncalled for, Genie” stated Auron holding a serious face.

“I guess all cowards die hard” shouted Oseth from a nearby tree.

Auron and Edd just chuckled. They then were startled by the sudden bloodshed from Larry and his gagging sound. Genie had thrust her spear into his belly. No one was expecting such action and Auron sure did not command it. Sometimes Genie would take the lead without a word. She was an independent woman and powerful. She took the thief’s life without hesitation. Auron, Edd and Saron would get intimidated at her masculinity sometimes and were afraid of telling her what to do. She was very generous and contributes to the team a lot and sometimes more than the men but she was still frightening.

“A little warning next time Genie. You startled me” Auron suggested taking a step back from Genie. “Sorry sir” she apologized “I just thought the dirty thief deserved it. Should I spear the other one too?”

“We’ll take it from here Genie. Thank you” Edd gently lowered her spear.

“The job is done Auron. Let’s deliver and collect our reward. My wife is waiting.” Saron said as he let go of Wolfgang and kicked him to the floor.

“God damn you all. If I was able to walk I would kill all five of you” threaten Wolfgang. Saron kicked him again and stepped on the injured foot. “You are in no position to make threats. Why don’t you stay here and keep your friend company. Goodbye.” Saron walked away. The short man whistled and from the fog a brown horse came running at him. Saron mounted the horse. “Let’s go!” He shouted and gallops into the fog.

“Such patients” Auron murmurs. “Well then let’s get out of here.” Auron, Edd, Oseth and Genie called their horses with a whistle. They mounted their horses and rode away.

Wolfgang watched them leave as he lay on the ground injured unable to walk next to Larry’s corpse. “Wait!” Wolfgang yelled “please don’t leave me with this idiot. Kill me if you must.”

On the path, hundreds of miles away from the capital city of Burnahdujf. They travel north on horseback. The green fields were vast with trees and fruits they fed from on their way back to collect their reward. They ride slow taking in all the agriculture and the sight of the farms, fields of rice and other vegetation. They passed village after village and every where they went someone knew their name. The band of the fox. Mainly for Auron Fox. The man who kills for money. The man who would go across the country for a bag full of gold. Everything he did was for the money. Every job he took whether if it was an assassination mission, finding someone or something, being a body guard, babysitting some wealthy man’s family or fighting off an enemy in some distant war, Auron and his band never failed. He chose his members wisely and those who begged to join his band almost never passed the test.

Some saw the band of the fox as heroes and others saw them as stone heart sword wielding bastards. Auron cared not. He did not aim for fame. He had a different goal in mind. Today his head was clouded with thoughts of his future plans.

“What are you thinking about Auron?” Asked Edd.  Auron did not answer; it seemed his mind was somewhere else. Edd waited for Auron to respond but all he heard was the sound of the horse’s shoes and Saron and Oseth conversing in the back. Edd gently punched Auron on the left arm stretching his big muscles across from his horse.

“Ouch!” Auron snarled “What’s wrong with you?”

“Sorry boss, just trying to get your attention. You seem lost in thought. Missing your wife already?”

Then Genie’s horse stepped forward and strolled next to Auron’s horse. “Leave Auron alone. He is probably thinking of our next mission” Genie seemed to always stand by Auron and his opinion. “I am just thinking of those thieves” Auron finally said “where were they going with the prince’s treasure. It was just a pendant. It is probably enchanted with magic.” Auron turned his head to Genie. “Let me see that pendant Genie.”

Genie was wearing the pendant. She was quite fond of it and wished she could keep it. It was beautiful and as tough as her friends thought her to be she still enjoys womanly things. She removed the pendant and gave it to Auron.

Auron contemplated the pendant. Being a magus himself he had knowledge of enchanted objects. He held the pendant on his left palm. He used his right hand and it glowed green of earth magic. He waved his glowing hand over the pendant hoping it would react but nothing happen. Then his hand glowed blue of water magic and waved it over the pendant again. Still no reaction.

“Genie try white magic” Auron tossed the pendant to Genie. She caught it and tried to use white magic on it. Genie’s magic allowed her to heal her friends in and out of battle. Her hands glow with a white light over the pendant and still the jewel shows no sign of enchantment. Genie tossed the pendant back to Auron.

“Perhaps it will react to dark magic sir” Edd suggested.

“Perhaps” Auron repeated “I wouldn’t be surprise but why did the thieves stole it? Could it be that they were heading to the south country?”

“What interest me most is how they were able to just snatch it from the prince? The castle is heavily guarded.” Genie said solemnly. The conversation had connected their mood. Now they seemed melancholy. The only thing cheery was the sound of Oseth and Saron bantering and laughing behind them.

“Do you think someone let them in?” Edd questioned.

“If so there is more going on than I thought.” Auron stated “there could be a chance that someone set us up and this mission was just a façade.”

I primarily write for the Christian genre although I love writing about anything that will help and encourage others.

“How to Discover Your Life Purpose and Stop Just Existing” was written for the Christian woman who is struggling with knowing her purpose in life; however, it is a subject matter that men can also benefit from because discovering one’s purpose is not limited to Christian women.

This book was birthed out of my own personal struggle with discover what my purpose is. In my searching I believe there are three factors (although there are many) that seems to adversely influence your journey in discover one’s purpose in life from a Christian perspective, and I discuss these factors in chapter 2.

Here’s a brief excerpt from “How to Discover Your Life Purpose and Stop Just Existing: A Christian Woman’s Guide to Living Life With Purpose, Passion, and Fulfillment:”

Chapter 2 - Three Factors That Can Affect Your Destiny

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7)

Knowing who you are in Christ is the first order of importance to living a life of purpose from the inside out. The second most vitally important factor is linked to three key areas in your life. These three areas can positively or negatively affect your destiny depending on how you use them. If they are used negatively or overlooked, they can cause you to compromise your purpose and sabotage your dreams and goals. This can have devastating consequences in your life and reaching your God-given dreams and goals as well as your purpose and destiny in Christ.

These three factors are: (1) Your Heart (2) Your Thoughts and (3) Your Mouth. If I were to turn these three factors into an equation it would read like this:

Your Heart + Your Thoughts + Your Mouth = Your Destiny!

The bottom line to this equation is this: If your heart is polluted with deception, fear, unbelief, etc., your thoughts will be distorted, and if your thoughts are rooted and grounded in lies then every thing you think, say, and do will negatively impact who you are, what you do, and your purpose and destiny. You will not be able to live an authentic life of purpose or reach your potential in Christ based upon the lies of the devil.

Each of these three factors will determine if you travel on the road to purpose, destiny, fulfillment, and excellence or the road of fear, discontentment, frustration, and mediocrity. You will invariably speak what is in your heart and whatever is in your heart you will speak into your existence; your words are like a rudder and will take you wherever you tell it to go. (Read, James 3:1-10).

If you find yourself traveling on the wrong side of the road, do not be discouraged. Why? You have been given the gift of choice. Whatever road you find yourself on today came as a result of the choices you have made and the words you have spoken; you need to understand that nothing just happens. Begin today (right now) to make different and better choices based on the will of God for your life and begin to speak life (God’s Word) over your life. God promises that you will have whatever you say in faith, believing!

Every single day you are faced with situations and circumstances that requires you to make a decision, and with those decisions come consequences, whether positive or negative, good or bad, for better or for worse. Even if you ignore a particular situation, you have still made a choice by default, and there will still be a consequence to your not actively doing something to resolve the issue or problem in your life.

I firmly believe that if you do not know who you are in Christ and what you were created to do you cannot set meaningful goals that are right for you. Yes, you can set and achieve goals apart from knowing your true-life purpose, but you will not find the true fulfillment your soul longs for. You will still feel a sense of emptiness after finally reaching the place you thought you wanted to be.

You may have gain prestige, a fancy title, money, and material things and yet feel frustrated, angry, and disappointed when you finally reach your goal. You can end up spending years obtaining things and positions you believed were part of your purpose or destiny, which will eventually breed discontentment in your soul. “What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul” (Matthew 16:26, NIV).

One of the worst tragedies a person can commit against God is to live his/her life apart from Him, take matters into his/her own hands, and chase after worldly dreams and goals instead of embracing their life purpose and destiny based on God’s plan, will, and purpose for his/her life.

In the grand scheme of things, Sheridan Malcolm has it all: a nice quiet life, a loving family and a successful contracting business. But beneath the pitter patter of little feet, thoughts of his past intrude upon his peace of mind. There is still a missing piece to the puzzle, one that he is not sure he is ready to face.

Amira Malcolm stands by her husband in any endeavor he opts to undertake. When he is called away on business, her world is thrust into utter chaos. Her friends tell her they’ve seen Sheridan with other women and Amira doesn’t know what to think. Discovering she is pregnant, she tries to put the rumors to rest for the sake of her marriage and her unborn child.

The pregnancy news comes as a shock to Sheridan, especially when the dates aren’t adding up. And with the accusations his wife is throwing his way, Sheridan starts to ask questions of his own. His mother always told him to keep his friends close and his family even closer. Could it be that someone from his past is sabotaging his future and if so, how far will they go to ruin his life?

Lessons Learned

The eyes are the root of deception. We cannot always believe what we see right in front of our eyes. This can lead to assumptions and we all know what happens when we assume. Years lost, relationships ruined, because we only believe the story our eyes reveal. This is the lesson Winston Malcolm must to learn.

The ears are not too far behind. While we may listen, if the heart and the mind are not open, do we truly hear what the person is saying? Caught up in our own view of the world, our spouses and children attempt to showl a different perspective. It is up to us to hear their words with openness, understanding, and compassion. This is Sheridan Malcolm’s lesson.

Doubletake is the tale of these two brothers, each with their own lessons to learn.

Blurb: Seth Rogan was a shitty spy.  Actually, he wasn't a spy at all.  Just a guy trying to do the right thing.  As a biologist for the largest biotech company in the world, he had a great job, great pay, and thoroughly enjoyed all the perks.  But when asked to do some tests on the company's genetically engineered foods, he became entangled in a trail of corruption and fraud that he wanted no part of, but could not escape from.  In a story so true to life it could almost be from today's newspapers, Seth, having bit the hand who fed him, is on the run from them, and the full overreaching strength of the United States government, as a fugitive, who finds temporary refuge with an old enemy of the U.S.  But his peace is about to be broken as he finds himself in the role of an involuntary spy

Praise For An Involuntary Spy

The #1 Best Selling Political Suspense Thriller that breaks open the GMO Controversy

“Kenneth Eade has gone where no man has gone before.  He’s made the GMO issue into a spy thriller.  Biologist Seth Rogan has discovered that the US Government knows what dangers Genetically Modified Organisms pose to humans. His company has been making insecticide resistant crops in order to sell more insecticide, AgriBusinesses are changing the very nature of our food stuffs in order to produce faster growing, disease resistant, handier to ship crops all to make more money.  No one knows the long term effects of GMO’s but they’re doing it anyway.  Now Seth has the government reports showing the US has known this all along.  He never set out to be a spy, just a good citizen and is now in hiding and on the run to save his life and the information vital to all of our existence.” I Publisher News

"It just could be that this book breaks the real life controversy wide open. There are untold mysteries that may not be known for decades. Altering the foods we eat cannot be done without consequences. If natural is best for human health, GMOs are the worst."  Barbara Stanley, Atlanta Health Examiner

“Adventure, corruption, passion, excitement, and an average guy who never thought his perfectly normal job would get him into so much trouble. What more could you ask for?"  Ross Winters, Bubblews

Gary Chattman is the noted author of three books, Coming of AgeIf I Should Die Before I Wake, and The Quixotic Teacher. His books span unique ideas not prevalent in today’s world; religious-based education that is individually motivated and educationally interesting; secular education that flies in the face of nonsensical standardized testing; and ridiculous education rules by educrats who have never taught. He celebrates the talent and world view of his students. He is a Bar/Bat Mitzvah/Judaica teacher for over thirty years; a piano teacher; a teacher for the S.A.T.; a teacher advocate and an advocate for his students. He is a concert pianist and is a motivating influence for children and their parents.

Blurb: Imagine you have become two different people. Today you are in the present, studying for your Bar Mitzvah. Then, suddenly, you dream that you have been transported back in time to Poland, and become caught in the Holocaust. Then you dream that you are in Poland in the Middle Ages. You are to be eradicated by gentile society that sees Jews as not chosen, but sub-human. How do you react? What is the true reality? How can you survive? What does it mean to be a Jew, today or then? And what about God? Is God listening to us? Does God care? Imagine you are Reuben Maimon, an impressionable young man of almost 13, about to take his Bar Mitzvah vows. He must question who he is, and what the ceremony's purpose is. What is the point of a modern Bar/Bat Mitzvah if it doesn't give Jews a link with the past? Imagine you are Reuben Maimon living these two different lives with the same cast of people, and not knowing what is the reality and what is the dream. Imagine what would happen if you die before you wake. Now imagine, if you were Reuben Maimon, if he should die before he wakes... Imagine.

Recent Ventures 2013

Retired teacher/administrator, New York City Public Schools; author of five published books:  “Coming of Age”: Bar and Bat Mitzvah Without Hebrew School; “The Quixotic Teacher”: one man’s journey through the morass of pubic education; a novel of success in face of beaurocracy; educrats who have never taught a day in their lives, yet make education policy; success in educating and motivating children to learn; “If I Should Die Before I Wake”: a novel of Jewish religious identity; “My Diary: Stories written by Teens about Jewish History”; and “Happiness, You Came Too Late”: about the affects of AIDS on a nuclear family.

Hebrew Schools simply aren’t succeeding in melding our children to our faith.  I have had tremendous success doing this “melding” and giving our Jewish children identity!

Playing concerts in the metropolitan area to illustrate the themes of my books.  Most times I bring students (both past and present) to join me; they sing, they play instruments…

Education/Media columnist:THE WESTCHESTER NEWS

(College of New Rochelle; Pace University; Westchester Community College; Lehman College)

People have often asked me, “Gary, how come you are so prolific in writing?” And I have answered, “Just motivated, I guess.”   My books fill a specific niche that others don’t.  For instance, “Overtures: Broadway Stars First Time on Broadway” is a collection of luminaries’ tales of how they became celebrities.  This book, which I am working on now, includes anecdotes from such as William Daniels, Audra Mcdonald, Mandy Patinkin and Robert Klein, among 50 others.  I am awaiting an interview with Barbra Streisand.

Furthermore, I am leading a crusade against standardized testing with my new book, MOST CHILDREN LEFT BEHIND: TEACHING IN AMERICA TODAY.  I have networked across the country with teacher and parents to rid ourselves of these irrelevant tests.  As one teacher remarked to me, “How can we assume that all students learn the same way and how can we assume that teachers all teach and motivate the same way?

My Passions

Besides the aforementioned, I tutor privately for the Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony—to date over 268 young adults have run their own ceremony—without Hebrew School.

I love the theatre.   I founded the TRUMAN HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA SOCIETY at the high school in the 1970's, 80's and 90's and produced, directed, accompanied--piano--many productions.  Many of my former students are now professionals in the arts and I hear from them on social media. I review shows for THECHEAPPOP on the web and write reviews for same.

I love being a teacher; I love influencing over 10000 children (by my estimation) in my lifetime.  Some “children” I taught way-back-when are social contacts today!

What I love about teaching

The ability not only to impart knowledge but identity and brotherhood in children are some of the hallmarks of my career.  Caring is important in being a successful teacher; teaching facts and history so it relates to children is more important than teaching facts so that a child will score higher on a standardized exam—therefore giving the school greater “recognition”.   A teacher is born, not made; that ability must be nurtured so that he or she can impart it to others.  That is the mark of a successful teacher.

How my abilities developed

I was a student leader in college, organizing rallies to protest the lack of gun control.  After the death of Robert Kennedy, my organization, the City College Young Democrats, organized a petition-writing campaign.  As you can see by current headlines, we haven’t been very successful.  I was the College liaison for the McCarthy campaign in 1968, linking up students with protests, fund drives and get-out-the-vote drives.  Indeed, I myself ran for public office (as a district leader) in 1968, and won by one vote!

I taught in the worst schools of the Bronx, from junior high to high school, developing theater programs for all children.  I did not see “color”; I got into trouble with my superiors many-a-time for being color blind.  I cast two Tevyes, from “Fiddler on the Roof” at JHS #136 on Jennings Street, Bronx, New York:   one was Black and one was Puerto Rican.  My shows that I directed/accompanied/produced in many high schools involved many children; one time I had over 300 acting, stage crafting, for shows at Truman High School, Bronx, New York.  These programs motivated many reticent students to come to school—and stay there!  Education with love, dedication and identity and direction and content was the key.

The performer

I also perform in concerts, playing the piano with some of my students—past and present singing and playing instruments.

To let the world know of my unique books…via media outlets and publicity; to continue teaching, educating, inspiring children--of—all—ages…to mount such a vociferous campaign against standardized testing that they are dropped completely…

The aim of education should be to teach the child to think, not what to think. John Dewey

A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.  Henry Brooks Adams

Teacher/Administrator/Director and Producer of Theatrical Productions

I developed many programs involving students in the theatrical arts; I educated many students in civics, English, social studies—in the public domain, and many others in private in S.A.T. preparation; piano and Judaica.

As noted above, of many books with specific and special niches that is educational for all.

Teacher Advocate

Leading a crusade against standardized testing; educating Jewish parents to seek an alternative to the time-consuming, boring, irrelevant Hebrew school education.

Piano teacher; concert pianist; I have written many unpublished songs, as well as a musical.

Political activist against: standardized testing; teaching evaluation rubric; common core; InBloom cloud data for all students.

The Murder House

Haunted house halloween pumpkins

Blurb: Every community has a house that people walk by hurriedly, nervously peeking at it out of the corner of their eye. Bonny Doon is no exception. A bloody double homicide occurred in the Murder House almost twenty years ago and the killer has eluded capture ever since. Recently the house was inherited and the new owner wants to sell.

The problem is no one wants to buy a house with a reputation and reports that it’s home to ghosts. The seller thinks Realtor Regan McHenry would make a perfect listing agent ― after all; with her penchant for playing amateur sleuth, she’s no stranger to murder.

This is the perfect book for you to read if you don’t believe in ghosts — and an even better book to read if you do

Blurb for Morning Motivation by Ashley Sauls

The thoughts that we give attention to at the beginning of the day set the tone for the remainder of the day. Why are our thoughts so important? Thoughts intermingle with our conversation and actions, resulting in a harvest we will consume (whether good or bad). We are encouraged in Philippians 4:8 to think thoughts that are true, honest, pure and lovely. Our minds can only think on these things if we apply the Word of God to our thought life. Depending on the season we are in, it might be challenging to find something good to think about. Let the wisdom of this 31 day devotional help you to establish the right foundation to help you to face every day challenges from the right perspective.

Candace Walker, Kaylan Smith, Jordan Tate, and Tiffany Thomas have their share of sorrows, but neither of them realizes how deep the sorrow goes.  What happens when they agree to meet for a weekend of relaxation in beautiful Napa County? Which one will leave the same or worse?

For Candace Walker, life has left her battered and bruised.  Kaylan Smith has struggled with prejudice from her in-laws. After fifteen years of marriage, bitterness is trying to raise its ugly head for Jordan Tate, whose husband wants to call it quits. And for Tiffany Thomas, dealing with rejection has never been one of her greatest feats.

Five Ways to Find Inspiration for Your Writing

Every Writer needs Inspiration. No matter how many books one has written, there are times when we need a little inspiration to get us going.

Many times I sit at my computer, starting at the blank screen, waiting for words to start flowing. Sometimes they do, sometimes I need a push.

Here are five ways you can get inspired:

  1. Pictures

Whether you take them yourself, look through an old photo album, or spend some time searching through Google, photographs are a great way to find inspiration for your writing. There is a Facebook group that uses pictures for this purpose.

  1. Books

I use this method a lot. Reading what other people have written may be enough to spark a few ideas you wouldn’t have otherwise had. Grab a book and mediate and let the inspiration flow.

  1. Eavesdropping

I know it’s not polite to do but it does work. Next time you’re at work, the store or the coffee shop, pay attention to what’s going on around you. Listen to the conversations people are having. Body language says a lot. Watch the movement of the people around you. Remember always have a pen and tablet with you.

  1. Experience

This is the best teacher. Sitting at home may not be the greatest idea to stir your mind. Go for a walk, sit at the park, run or ride somewhere, go sit at the beach. Keep your eyes and ears open while you do it.

  1. Music

Some people can write while listening to music. If this is you, grab some of those tunes and go for it. Playing old tunes can sometime jar memories that can be used to get the juices flowing. Try finding music that you’ve never listened to and see what happens.

Are You Inspired Yet?

We are surrounded by information, people, by stories. Things we see, people we hear, any person you meet can bring the inspiration for your next best seller.

Be Inspired!

Prelude to Latest Book – Forgetting Those Things…

It is said there is no greater love than to give one’s life for a friend. Is the greatest betrayal against a friend?

What happens when our heart loves the forbidden, hurting those we hold dear?

Let Forgetting Those Things… take you on a journey of lies, betrayal and deceit, and finally…triumph.

Forgetting Those Things…is a captivating journey of lies, betrayal, entrapment, and triumph.
One day…the offender must break free, receive grace, forgive thy self, and above all else, forget.
The offender is never unloved.
Ollie, Desiree, Deacon and Zoe are four individuals that are forced to revisit past decisions. They proclaim they have forgiven themselves for hurting those they hold dear, but they’ll never forget. Trapped by haunting memories, their hearts are hindered and futures are limited. Will the threat of death, loss and prison, teach them that guilt over past offenses is a form of un-forgiveness?

Forgetting Those Things...

Deacon slammed his car door.

She turned her head, barely recognized him with the thick fuzzy hat on.

â€œI want to talk to you!” he shouted, stomping in snow.

She sighed again. Her school day had been long with Tiona’s incident. She went to Bible study with Ollie for restoration. However…he had a bug riding his butt. She didn’t know what his problem was. And now all she wanted was a hot bubble bath and something sweet to eat.

She already pictured herself eating a slice of German chocolate cake while soaking in her massive tub. “I don’t want to talk tonight, Deacon. Go home.”

He trekked over to her, took her briefcase and Bible out of her hands. “It won’t take long. Let’s go inside.” He nodded his head.

â€œLook,” she pointed her gloved finger in his face, “you don’t order me. I don’t know what kind of women you’re used to, but you’re in America, and we…”

â€œShut up Desiree and open the door. It’s freezing out here.” A rush of wind bit through them.

â€œYou shut up,” she mumbled, fumbling with her key.

It was freezing, so she caved and he followed her inside. She flipped the lights and climbed up to the second floor where her living room, kitchen and dining room were.

Resting her briefcase and Bible on the coffee table, he watched her shed her outdoor clothing. He took off his hat, but didn’t bother with his coat. He pictured he’d let her have it quick. For the moment, she silenced him with her causal smooth movements.

                â€œWhat?” she demanded.

He remembered the reason for the visit, popped back. “How could you, Desiree? How could you let Ivy Pipman and your mother lose their friendship? If you would have just told your mother why you decided not to marry Sterling, maybe they could have remained friends. Did you know what the broken engagement did to Mrs. Pipman?”

Desiree started to open her mouth, but Deacon deepened his voice and fueled on, “You let your mother die without her best friend, Desiree. You’re so doggone selfish.  Just like you coming to me, to have sex with me, with no intentions of staying with me. You ever think how it would affect me? You ever consider anyone besides yourself?”

Her eyes blazed stronger than his now, her voice trembled, “I made love to you, you self righteous coward! Don’t you dare accuse me of selfishness. You left Deacon! You left!”

Her eyes watered as she continued to shout, “I had to look at Sterling! I saw him suffering! I saw him not able to walk. I saw him needing to learn how to do things all over again. I helped him as long as I could.” Exhausted, she took a breath, added softly, “I had to see what my decision cost someone that I loved. And I have to live with those consequences everyday of my life.”

Her eyes flooded, before the first tear fell, she declared, “I was in love with you. I needed you. You left…and I needed you. You were gone…” she trailed off, sobbing.

He walked up to her and slowly wrapped his arms around her. Touching his lips to her ear, he whispered, “I’m here. I’m here. I’m so sorry, baby.”

He held her. She allowed herself to hold onto him, and held until her sobs quieted. “Deacon, why?”

He pulled back a little, looked down into her incredible eyes, kissed her forehead. “Why, what?”

â€œWhy are you here? What do you want? I’m involved with someone. I can’t hurt him.”

He felt her body stiffen. His lips drifted to her ear, whispered, “Desiree…”

Trembling, she felt his warm breath grace her skin, his heated gaze, his lips anointing her cheek. He revealed, “I want…”

Not now, not now, she begged, “Please…don’t.”

AUTHOR Jamie White

I'm an author, blogger, photo geek, music addict, editor, pop culture geek, and a pet servant who spent more than a decade as a Journalism student, geeking out over Pagemaker, layout design, and other stuff.

In college, I took it a step further and became the only student to be on all three of my college's publications, serving as Editor-In-Chief for two of them. Later, I went on to freelance writing and blogging.

I began my journey into fiction writing in 2010, after joining a writing group. Since that first meeting, I have completed a bunch of short stories, five manuscripts, and have a few now in progress. I releasedThe Life and Times of No One In Particular in 2012, and followed it up with a story in the Lyrical Muse Anthology in 2013. I am looking forward to another release this year.

When I'm not writing or blogging, I take pictures, meditate, practice Reiki and chanting, watch favorite shows/movies, take walks, and serve as a volunteer for the Florida Writers Association by running their social media and a writing group (Gulfstream Writers). I also co-host the Indie Review Behind the Scenes radio show with founder Michelle Cornwell-Jordan.

It’s her last summer before going away to college and Fiona finds herself facing more than she bargained for: A boyfriend she doesn’t want who has a strange hold over her, a friend pushing her to expand her boundaries, and a new guy named Ted whose presence is more than a distraction.

If that isn’t enough, Fiona is being haunted with horrifying nightmares of burning at the stake—nightmares so real, she feels as though she’s losing her mid.

Are they only dreams, or are they trying to warn her about this new guy she can’t help but want?

Reasons to Love the Paranormal Genre

Jamie White

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve been fascinated by the paranormal. My favorite movie when I was five was Poltergeist. I knew every single line in it by heart and would go around acting out different scenes.

That love hasn’t faded since.

If anything, I’ve gotten more into the genre over the years and the vast majority of my favorites fall into this category.

There are so many reasons why, but for this post I will only list a few:

1) It comes with so many possibilities--witches, vampires, ghosts. The list is practically endless.

2) Paranormal and Fantasy tales are an excellent place to explore controversial topics in a safe way. Take Bewitched, for example. During a time when mixed marriages were pretty much unheard of in pop culture, the series was able to explore the subject through a union between a mortal and a witch. By looking at it from that perspective it was much more palatable for audiences at that time.

3) The writing is, to me, some of the best there is. There’s a sense of humor in most that is hard to match. Plus, in the case of Doctor Who’s Steven Moffet, the writing is bound to scare the pants off you or make you cry.

Again, these are just a few of the reason I enjoy it so much. I would love to hear what you think of these choices. Do you agree?

Are there reasons you think should have been included? What are some of your paranormal favorites? I’d love to hear about them.

Dr Stuart Jeanne Bramhall is an American psychiatrist and long time activist who emigrated to New Zealand in 2002. In her memoir, The Most Revolutionary Act: Memoir of an American Refugee, she describes the problems with FBI harassment that led her to emigrate. In addition to 21st Century Revolution, a collection of political essays published as a free ebook, she has also published two young adult novels, The Battle for Tomorrow and A Rebel Comes of Age. The books celebrate the coming of age of a 16 year-old-girl who becomes politicized during a blockade and occupation of the US Capitol.

A Rebel Comes of Age is a sequel to Dr Bramhall’s first young adult novel, The Battle for Tomorrow. In the first book, sixteen-year-old Angela Jones is arrested and sent to juvenile hall for participating in a blockade and occupation of the US Capitol. The sequel takes place a year later, when she and four homeless teenagers occupy an empty commercial building owned by Bank of America. Their goal: to transform it into a teen homeless shelter.

Over the next five months, they work through all the typical problems of inner city teenagers – including raging hormones, the temptation of drugs and alcohol, racial tensions, and pregnancy – as they struggle to win community acceptance. When Bank of America obtains a court order evicting them, the adventure turns deadly serious as they realize lives are on the line. When the other residents decide to use automatic weapons to keep the police SWAT team out, Ange experiences a major personal crisis and is forced to re-examine her attitudes towards guns and violence.

The Lost Generation – Life after Work

A Rebel Comes of Age explores the question of life after work. In the five years since the 2008 economic meltdown, 25-40% of 18-30 year olds still find themselves permanently excluded from the workforce. With more equitable wealth distribution resources, freeing people from the drudgery of work opens up infinite possibilities for more creative and socially productive activities. Numerous analysts attribute the Arab Spring and Occupy Wall Street to unemployed youth taking up social and political activism as an alternative to work.

A Rebel Comes of Age provides a brief snapshot of homeless, unemployed teenagers who find themselves building a movement, without quite realizing this is what they are doing.

About The Book

A Annie cover

Have you looked in the mirror recently? Was the person looking back at you the person you used to be or are you not sure who is starring back at you. Sometimes during the course of life we allow ourselves to become what society says we ought to be. Society and it's norms should not be how we define ourselves. God has made each one of us to be unqiuely different and special in our own right. When we take the time to examine ourselves we may be surprised how much of the real us is gone. Physically we disfigured ourselves or made ourselves sick trying to measure up to how society says we ought to look or be. Who I Be is personal. It is time that we focus on who and how God intended for us to be. We were fearfully and wonderfully made and we should find satisfaction in being made in God's image and not who or what society says we should be. Our physical, emotional, mental, and financial status does not make us. Who I Be is about the person who can be themselves and not be stressed or anxious about becoming another product of circumstances or norms to be wholly.

Hunter Ally: Author John Zunski's Guest Post: "Don't Give Up!...Perservering against the negative voices"

Hunters Halitoque! (Hello), I thought I would begin to sprinkle in some of the veribage that is spoken in The Republic of Bid'adan, which is the society that will be introduced in the final installment, "Redemption " of the Night School Vampire Trilogy, and will play a prominent role in the coming Hunter novellas and the full length title Chrysalis, upcoming Summer 2013! The Republic of Bid'adan is the home to many of the supernaturals including the fantabulous ThunderKins!

So Hunters again, Halitoque! and today I am excited to bring you a Hunter Ally post from the wonderfully talented author John Zunski! He will speak today on how to keep moving towards your dreams, even when there might be negative voices in your head saying, you can't do it! Author John Zunski encourages to keep moving forward no matter what! So please check out some of John's deets below and also enjoy the post!

The post is supporting the Hunter's motto...Faith...Loyalty...Service

Do the dead forgive? The question haunts Sondra McAfee. After the death of their three year-old son, Sondra and husband Travis escape Seattle’s society for a fresh start in the mountains of Montana, only to learn what awaits is as horrific as their past.

On the fringe of civilization, something sinister lurks within moonlit shadows, preying upon the anguish of tortured souls. Feel Sondra’s isolation in a mountain cabin, the torment of a schizophrenic shut-in, and the desperation of a broken hearted musician as they struggle to overcome personal demons. Together, can they defeat what feeds upon their souls? The answer lies within this tale of horror, betrayal, addiction, and lust.

Guest Post:

Do you hear it? Do you feel it? Yeah, that! Those ideas, that desire.

One little voice inside your head tells you: “I can’t do that.”

The other voice whispers: “But, I want to. Don’t listen to that other voice; you know you can do it.”

Then you do it – when no one is looking, you sit down in front of your computer and open and new word document. The blank page stares at you. If you listen hard enough, you may even hear it taunting you. “You can’t do it! What? You’re typing words!?! It doesn’t matter, you can type all the words you want, it’s not going to amount to anything.”

You’re brave; you try to ignore that voice in your head, but it won’t go away; it will always tell you that you can’t do it. I know, I hear it every day. Every time I write that negative voice screams. “What are you doing sucker. Do you know what you’re writing sucks? It’ll never amount to anything!”

One word, than another, and another after that – suddenly you have a sentence, a paragraph. You lose track of time, and before you know it you’re a page in, two pages; a chapter. Characters begin jumping off your page and become people: people that you care about, people that make you laugh, make you cry, make you feel! And they’re yours – all yours. Your imagination created new worlds and the people who populate them.

Is it easy? It’s one of the hardest things you’ll ever do. It’s gut wrenching, heartbreaking, and frustrating. Some days I promise you’ll want to jump off a bridge. Yet others will be the best days of your life. Two of my best memories writing Cemetery Street were the first time I opened the first document that would become the outline page, the other was when I finished the first draft and typed: The End.

The blank page taunted me. “Yeah, where’s that idea now sucker? You thought you had it, but it went bye-bye, good luck getting it back.” I persevered and in my mind I imagined far away church bells, droning sadly. The image became the opening paragraph in Chapter 13 which is the protagonist’s high school friend’s funeral.

The feeling of completing the first draft of your first manuscript is an incredible high. Truthfully, I don’t think I’ve experienced anything as powerful, even seeing the proof of the paperback ranked second.

But the highs don’t last forever, and like any other addict, writers spend a great amount of time and effort chasing that elusive feeling. Why do we do it? Why would we subject ourselves to such torture? I can hear you ask: “John, if you can’t ever feel as good as the first time, why do it again and again? It’s kind of crazy, isn’t it?”

“Yes it is. But you know what? You start realizing that you possess a talent, a craft and if you don’t work on improving it it’s like taking a talent and flushing it down the toilet. Writing, like most crafts - I was also a hockey player and a firefighter – isn’t about doing it once and resting on your laurels. At least for me, and I don’t knock those who do, but I have a much more selfish reason why I continue torturing myself in front of word documents, it’s a matter of self-preservation, if I didn’t write, if I didn’t tell stories, my head would explode.

Oh yeah, that voice in my head is relentless, it still tells me my work sucks, that it will never amount to anything. Instead of trying to ignore it, I listen to it; I turn it up, till it’s blaring. Then I go back and rewrite and rewrite again. That voice is really your friend. You can use it to your favor. Because what it is really telling you is that you are capable, you can do it, just don’t think you’re so good that you don’t have to keep working at the craft.

And if anybody knows about this stuff it’s me – ‘cause in 7th grade, I got my only F on a report card, and it was in English, which was heartbreaking because I always wanted to write, and that big, fat, juicy letter proved to me that I wasn’t worthy. For a long time I thought so. Then that determined dreamer took over. I wish my seventh grade English teacher was still alive; I would love to send her a copy of my first book. I think she would be proud.

Don’t give up, make someone proud!

Making Lemonade From Life's Lemons

Have you ever heard the expression “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade?” Some of you may know what that means. Sometimes, we have no control over what life throws at us: only over how we react. I learned first hand, when my life and my dreams changed unexpectedly after life threw me a curve ball: I was diagnosed 4 ½ years ago with a rare illness: Dermatomyositis (DM). It is a disease that if left untreated, attacks and weakens the immune system, muscles and skin-as well as the mind and spirit. My story is one of persevering through this darkness called DM through the creative process; music is my lifeline, and I cannot stop creating. My story is also one of being a light in the darkness and of sharing and connecting with you. You see, through all of this I started as a singer-songwriter, but became a muse.
I've worn a lot of hats. I was an Environmental Scientist for 10 years focusing on coastal water issues before DM forced me to take leave in July 2009. I also am a singer-songwriter for Aoede, which is my artist name. Aoede was the muse of song in Greek Mythology. I wanted an affiliation with the muse to remember to inspire and to be continually inspired. I took the name Aoede at the end of 2005. How was I to know that I would become the muse that I identified with musically all these years?
In September 2010, I was hospitalized for 24 days due to an apparent flare of my DM. And from the time I was back home, while physical and occupational therapists were coming to the house multiple times a week, while a home nurse came to assist me with my bathing needs, while family or friends shuttled me back and forth each month to the hospital for infusions for a week at a time, while I was learning a new baseline and a new norm that involved wheelchairs and walkers, ramps and commode seats and shower benches, all I cared about was getting my music I had recorded in 2010 out into the world.
Lets skip forward in time to December 2012. This past year Aoede received 5 music-related awards and 3 Children’s Awards, released 2 albums, premiered a music video, was nominated for 2 music awards for 2013, performed for CureJM Jam and Festival in OR (for kids afflicted with the same disease), and was considered for the Grammy Awards. In September 2011, the music and the health issues came together when I told my story and performed at an annual conference related to DM in Las Vegas-my first public appearance in over a year. In March 2011 I released an EP. I also engaged heavily in social networking, released a new website and began blogging about music and DM in 2011. All except for parts of the music video shoot, awards shows and conferences I've done from home :)
I share these highlights and accolades because they are noteworthy and to be celebrated. I can't express how much all of these accomplishments mean to me considering just what kind of path I have been on to get here. It means to me that if you truly believe in something, if you dream it and imagine it, and work for it, you can make it come true. In my case, it means I will keep doing everything I can to make music and art, to bare what's in my soul, and to use it to inspire and connect with others-no matter what life throws at me.
When life is hurling lemons at you; when you’re so tired you can’t get out of bed; whatever life throws at you, you got to pick yourself up and do what you can with what you got! It’s easy to want to give up-on a dream, on a path, a project… especially when life throws you curve balls; I wrote the song “What You Got” (which you can hear on both "Is Love A Fairy Tale?" and on "Skeletons of the Muse") to instill hope and encouragement-in others and I suppose in myself as well…
Here are Aoede’s 10 Secrets for Making Lemonade From Life's Lemons:

1. I awaken and greet each day with total love, gratitude & a positive attitude keeping my spirits high, always having hope! Just remember: Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you respond to it.
2. I strive to get the best quality of life that I can from each day. I “Do What I Can With What I've Got.” I've come to peace with a new baseline & slower pace.
3. I have found and live in my place of joy!
4. I am constantly believing in myself, that I am blessed and that life is beautiful. (It helps me to remember the adage: I once came upon and had sympathy for a man who had no shoes until I met the man who had no feet... )
5. I do not go this alone! I recognize when I need help, have learned to receive, nurture relationships, have great empathy and compassion for others and have an amazing support system, beautiful loving family, friends and a whole network of new connections.
6. I make time and opportunity to create and express through music and art!
7. I write to process, share, connect.
8. I use humor and find ways to smile and laugh (and make others smile and laugh) constantly!
9. I truly practice law of attraction and know if you imagine it and truly believe it, you can realize it!
10. I see opportunity-I ask what can I learn from this and what can I teach, not "why me," and I refuse to be a victim!

Hello everyone and thank you Michelle for inviting me to share this with you all. J

Now, what am I here to talk about? I could get into a conversation about football with the playoffs here, but since my Giants are eliminated I’ll save that for another time. Over the span of twenty-five years of being a fan they’ve often fallen short of my goals for them but nobody’s perfect, right? I mean, they still do their best and have won a couple of championships so I don’t have room to complain. I know they’ll perform better next year, or the year after that so I’ll shake off my frustration.

I know what you’re all thinking. What in the world is he talking about? Have no fear, while I tend to ramble at times there is a method to my madness. Confidence is one of the strongest things a person can possess. Having confidence in others and yourself is never a bad thing. Take a minute to look around you, I bet you know people that project their confidence and make others feel good about themselves. They rarely say or brag about what they do. Instead they continue to move forward in whatever they’re doing.

It’s not easy, but all of us are capable of believing in ourselves in the face of adversity. There may be times you want to give up or walk away from something because it’s hard, but before you do think about how good it’d feel to try to succeed. Even if you don’t succeed in your endeavor, wouldn’t it feel better to know you tried instead of giving up? Believe it or not, that’s your confidence speaking.

So long as you have a dream and refuse to give in, as long as you continue to work towards your goal no matter how little or much on a regular basis, you’ll feel your confidence grow with each step. An old cliché comes to mind, “things worth having are worth fighting for”. Someone will always understand or be able to do things easier than you, but in the end the confidence you’ve built will provide a solid foundation for the rest of your dreams.

Hunter Ally: Author Sebastian Cole Guest Post: "Life's A Journey:Pursuing The Dream"

Hello Hunters! I hope you are all well after the holiday festivities....today I hope you will help welcome another Hunter Ally. Author Sebastian Cole of Undying Love, will speak to us on the challenges he faced and overcame to pursue his goal of writing.

This is another fabulous post that supports the Hunter motto of Faith. Loyalty. Service.

SYNOPSIS: Noah Hartman, eighty years old, lies sick in a hospital bed recounting his life of love and loss to Josh, in his sixties, a wise and compassionate orderly who stopped in to bring him dinner. As Noah’s loved ones arrive one by one to see him, they listen in on his story, and we’re transported back in time to Noah’s younger years.

Though outwardly seeming to have it all, Noah, now thirty-five, is actually an empty, lost, and broken man running on automatic pilot. He has no true identity due to having allowed his powerful, wealthy parents to manipulate, control, and brainwash him from a young age. With the threat of disinheritance and withholding love and approval if he doesn’t comply with the plan they have for his life, Noah is lured in by the reward of great wealth and the illusion of running the family business empire some day. In truth, however, Noah is like a regular, everyday guy living a life that was not meant for him.

Enter Robin, twenty-five years old, who — in direct contrast to Noah — is a vivacious, free spirit. Full of life and always living in the moment, Robin’s love saves Noah by inspiring him to stand up to his parents and live his own life at all costs, reclaiming his true self.

While snorkeling in the Caribbean, the captain of the boat warns them not to disturb anything in the sea. Ignoring the exhortation, Noah dives down and snags a sand dollar from the ocean floor, whereupon it explodes in his hand. With the fragile sand dollar taking on new significance, Robin inexplicably leaves Noah shortly after returning from their trip. Like a passing breeze, she disappears out of his life without a trace, seemingly forever.

Years pass, and Noah still can’t get her out of his mind and out of his heart. After all, she’d always be the one who got away, the one he loved the most. That’s when he finds out about her hidden secret, the underlying condition responsible for her having left. Noah has no choice but to move on with his life without her, meeting Sarah and pursuing a relationship with her.

Years later, it’s Noah and Sarah’s wedding day, and Robin discovers a clue that Noah had surreptitiously sent her, inspiring her to race to the wedding to try to stop it. With the wedding in shambles, the scene jumps back to present day, with both Robin and Sarah placed in Noah’s hospital room. But which one did he choose?

Things are definitely not as they appear as Noah discovers a far greater truth about his past, present, and future. As Noah finishes telling his story, we are brought up to present day, where the pieces of a shattered love are put back together in the remarkable final chapter of his life.

Lessons Learned in Writing My First Novel, by Sebastian Cole

I’m the type of guy who believes you can achieve anything you set your mind to, as long as you give it your all and don’t give up. So when I decided to write a novel, it didn’t matter to me that I had never done anything like that before. What did matter to me was that I had a great story in my head, a story that needed to be born. With no experience, training, or education in creative writing, I figured I’d pick up the skills along the way, which is exactly what happened. Besides, I thought, how hard could it be to write a book? Well, I’d soon find out.

What I thought would take a couple of months, took a couple of years. After five months of writing everyplace and everywhere, I finally reached the “finish line” of my manuscript – that magical day when you type, “THE END.” Okay, so I wrote a manuscript; now what? The first thing I did was to copyright it, followed by sending it out to all of my friends who read a lot, to get constructive criticism. This worked out great for me. Then it was back to rewriting the story, and when I was done, I rewrote some more. Next, I hired a professional to critique the story, who gave me some great advice, which meant more rewriting. I soon learned Lesson One in writing: writing is rewriting. There’d always be room for improvement.

By this point in time during this process, I felt that the story had risen to a level of brilliance. But what about my writing style and voice? It needed to be just as good as the best-selling authors’, because they don’t put an asterisk next to your name along with an explanation about your education. So I spent months combing through the manuscript, trying to bring the level of writing up to the level of the story.

When I felt I was ready, I tried soliciting literary agents with a one-page query letter, synopsis, and whatever their submission guidelines called for. Oh, did I mention the Catch 22 in traditional publishing? Apparently, you need a literary agent to get traditionally published. However, in order to get a literary agent, you need to have already been published. So it’s nearly impossible to get an agent unless you’re a famous celebrity, politician, sports figure, etc. Certainly, they’d give me more credence if I had a BFA or MFA in creative writing, which I had not. Like all roads to success, this one’s paved with rejection. And after tons of rejection letters from literary agents, I had a choice to make: give it up or step it up. Since giving up is not really in my vocabulary, I stepped it up.

So I hired an editor, and the first thing she did was cross off 5,000 unnecessary words. For instance, you shouldn’t write, “run fast.” You should simply write, “run”, because obviously if you’re running, it’s fast. Who knew?? Besides copy-editing, my editor did developmental editing, too, telling me where the story needed to be improved. It was kind of like digging for treasure – she’d tell me where to dig, and I’d come up with something great, as if she knew I had it in me before I ever did. I learned a lot simply by reading her edits and comments, and I became a better writer for it.

I had rewritten the manuscript time and time again for a period of two years, and in the process, I learned how to write. Looking back, I had no idea how long it was going to take or how hard it was going to be. Writing the manuscript, however, was the easy part. Navigating the way to a successful book, now that’s the hard part.

After getting the go-ahead from my editor, I decided to self-publish my first novel, SAND DOLLAR: A Story of Undying Love. Now it was time to find out how good it really was. I set up a website,http://sebastiancoleauthor.com  entered contests, gave away free books to reviewers, and waited for the reviews to start coming in.

And the results? Well, the reviews have been mostly outstanding, with an average rating of 4.6 stars (out of 5 stars) on Amazon with over 60 reviews. People who have reviewed SAND DOLLAR have even called it the best love story they’ve ever read, with many of them comparing me to Nicholas Sparks. I was also a finalist in ForeWord Firsts debut literary competition for first-time authors. Who knew?!

But my greatest reward lies not in any number or rating. My greatest reward lies in the effect I’ve had on the lives of others through my writing. People who’ve read SAND DOLLAR, especially those who have lost a loved one, feel that the book was written just for them, as if the author expressed in words what they have always felt. One person wrote that the story “touched the very depths of her soul,” and she’ll “cherish the book forever.” She loved the book so much that she even had the book made into earrings!

I only wish more people knew about it so they could read it. I honestly feel the world would benefit, if they only knew… What I need is exposure. But how do I do that? It would be great if I had a YouTube video with millions of hits, or if Oprah were to mention my book, but neither is likely to happen at this point. So I sent out press releases and got a couple of articles written about me in local newspapers. I’ve done several book signings, and talked at different venues about my experiences. Despite all of my success, my book is currently only available online, not in bookstores, and very few people have ever heard of me.

So it’s back to the literary agents I go. I’ve somehow made it full circle. But will I have a different result now that SAND DOLLAR has gained traction? Stayed tuned to find out. Regardless of whether or not SAND DOLLAR ever makes it big, touching the lives of others through my writing has been the single most gratifying thing I have ever done in my life. And pursuing my dreams has made all the difference. Life’s a journey. I can’t see what lies ahead, but I know one thing for sure: when I look behind, I see the things that I’ve accomplished… and I smile with pride.

Hunter Ally Guest Post: Author L.A. Jones of Tales of Aradia: The Last Witch /Guest Post" OverComing Bullying"

Hello Hunters, today I am very grateful and appreciative to have the wonderful Author L.A. Jones speak to our younger Hunters. She is opening up and giving a personal account of her life in dealing with Asperger Syndrome.

Ms. Jones also recounts the horrifying bullying that resulted from those who did not understand this particular syndrome. She explains in details the challenges, depression and pain that resulted. L.A.Jones also gives details to overcoming the negatives and becoming a published author.

This is truly the Hunters motto: Faith. Loyalty. Service.

I am grateful that she has taken the time, and I hope that you will welcome her, and also glean gems of wisdom from her words to apply to any challenges that you might be facing.

The Salem Witch Trials were as we all know a horrific turning point in history. It showed people how far their paranoia could lead them to; murder, persecution, and betrayal. Unknown to the humans, however, there were actually real witches located not just in Salem but all over the world including other magical beings like fairies, vampire, werewolves etc. However, once the events of the Salem Witch trials came to be the other races began to fear exposure to the humans and without so much as a second thought all the witches of the world were hunted down and killed. There was not one witch whom survived the genocide or at least that's what all the vampires, werewolves, and other races thought. But one day a girl named Aradia moves to Salem, MA and all that changes

"when life gives you lemons, make a lemonade." There's a bunch of phrases that people use on a regular basis, all because it is relevant to every day life. The "lemon" saying is just one of the things I believe in. Another is "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

Why I believe in both these phrases can all be summed up into thing: bullying. I was a bully victim if being a bully victim has taught me anything its make the best of any situation and what does not break you makes you a better person.

The problem with being an Asperger Syndrome child, is you can kiss any possibility of being popular goodbye. I have met other Asperger syndrome children and the sad truth is we all get bullied. It's because we don't understand things the way others do. Having Aspergers is a lot like being a mirror. You can't see what people see but you can see them and understand their reactions. Similar to a mirror, we can also shatter in a million pieces. Needless to say, I was bullied most of my life.

I don't know if any of you have seen the movie "Mean Girls." I am not saying girls do not bully others. I have seen it happen. Bullying is genderless so both boys and girls can be bullies. My experience was I never got picked on by girls. I was always picked on by guys. I don't know if that is really relevant but I just thought I should clarify. In school, there is always at least one child whom everyone regards as the crazy kid. I was that girl. People thought I was nuts and tended to avoid me. Some people tried to befriend me or at least tolerate me. But overall, I was bullied. I was teased, treated like a skin rash, called names, and so much more.  It got to be so bad that I tended to avoid people or worse lash out. Lashing out was the worst option because that got me suspended from school a lot.

However, as much as I hated being a bully victim it taught me a lot of things. One of those things was valuing friendship. I didn't have many friends so whenever I did make one I was willing to do anything for them. By being a bully victim though I was able to see if a friend was truly being a friend or just playing me. I was able to spot manipulation and judge someone by their actions not by their words. So if I was approached by someone, I would observe their behavior to see if their intentions were true.

Most of all, it helped me to relate to victims. Since I was a bully victim I could understand when someone was in pain. Whenever I see someone who looks different I run up and make friends with them. I do this because I know what it's like to be judged but most of all what's it like to have no one. It also taught me that the people who are starving for friendship often end up being the truest of friends. I have made friends with several people who were judged or bullied and have still remained friends with them to this very day.

So yes I was bullied but I made the best of the situation. In the end that helped me more than anything else ever did. I learned how to make true friends, how to not judge anyone, but most of all I learned to relate to people. Life gave me lemons so I made lemonade.

In my senior year in high school, I was picked on by a regular bunch of people who made my life hell. I hated them so much for how they treated me. I hated them that I thought in some warped way if I killed myself it would shame them. I tried but luckily my parents stopped me and checked me into a Hospital. The next time I went to school the bullying still continued. I got so fed up that I marched over to them and told them what I had tried to do.

Their response? They laughed! They thought it was amusing that they could make someone do such a thing. They thought it was funny that they could hold such power over me.

This is when I realized something. They didn't care about me. Yes they bullied me but that didn't make me special to them in anyway. These people acted like Olympian Gods who really believed they were above others. They honestly believed that other people's lives existed only for their amusement. The consequences didn't matter to them because they considered themselves virtually untouchable.

This taught me, quite literally, that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I learned that hurting yourself accomplishes nothing. It doesn't affect the bullies whatsoever. They will never change. You, however, can. You can become better, stronger, and more amazing than they could ever be.

I learned this when one of my former classmates, who also bullied me, ran for office. I was worried and I confess my curiosity got the better of me. I went to his fund raiser and needless to say he was surprised to see me. However, like any good politician he set aside his feelings and focused on his goal. I never forgot the look on his face in addition to the others. The moment I walked in with my head held high, my personality a lot more sociable, and my appearance vastly improved I sent their tongues wagging.  "You sure have changed," was the phrase I kept hearing through out the whole night. Most of all, they admired me for putting my past behind me. Once or twice, they mentioned my previous behavior and I just laughed it off. In the old days, I would throw a fit. I proved to them that they no longer any control over my life. I learned that the best type of revenge is proving to people how wrong they are. Bullies always sing the same tune "you are a loser, you will never amount to anything." But I proved to them how much I could change and the fact that I was successful while most of them with their Princeton and Harvard degrees were stuck working at clothing stores made it all the more sweeter.

The biggest advantage that bullying gave me was being a better writer. I am published author and people are always saying how much they like the fact that I make my characters sound so believable. By being a bully victim, I was often forced to just watch people interact and be social. I learned to observe behavior and work it into my stories. I could relate to my readers and so on all because I had learned to observe.

So in the end the two phrases "when life gives you lemons make lemonade," and "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" are the most relevant to my life. Why? Because of bullying and because I made it so. I realized that in the end, all these bullies want is to make you feel bad about yourself. It is a never ending battle, but you cannot let them win. You can beat them but only by proving them wrong.

Hello Hunters:) Today I would like to invite you to welcome and then read this awesome post from Author Jamie B Musings who graciously agreed to speak today!

She is helping to launch the new Hunter Series Fan Club's Hunter Allies project. This is where Authors will come in and speak with our junior members grades 5th-12th grade! (Hopefully some of the Senior members will enjoy these great post as well:)

So welcome to Author Jamie B Musings!

First off, I want to thank Michelle Cornwell-Jordan for inviting me to post here. She’s become a good friend of mine since we met via the internet; I have seriously met very few people who are as supportive and open as she is.

It’s funny; you never know what’s going to happen. I never really thought I would be co-hosting an internet radio show. Despite the fact I majored in journalism in school and was involved in publications from the time I was in 10th grade, I never even attempted to go beyond the print world.

I met Michelle through Goodreads. I offered to host some people on my blog and she and I wrote back and forth a few times. Later on, she e-mailed me regarding co-hosting the Indie Review Show with her. I was in shock. Me on the radio? Is she kidding? Still, I was happy she’d asked and decided to take a chance and try my luck at it.

I have been having the best time and it’s opened me up a lot. She will tell you that I’m totally calm and collected on the radio, but the truth is I’m scared to death most of the time. I’ve pretty much always been shy and the only time I’m not completely terrified when I know a crowd is listening/watching is when I’m singing. It’s always been that way.

Since we started the show, we got to interview one of my favorite contestants from season two of The Voice, have built up a decent size audience and we’re having such a great time. I’m even beginning to calm down a bit while on air, lol. None of that would have been possible if I hadn’t decided to go for it and gave doing the show a chance.

If there is one thing I’ve learned is so important, it’s taking risks.

I’m not saying go out and do insane stunts or anything. I’m talking getting out of your comfort zone. Read something new. Try a new hobby you’ve always thought about. If it scares you, even better! Most of the time the thing we’re afraid of is we’re not good enough. How do we know if we haven’t even tried? Even if we suck, what does it matter? I spent so much time in school being afraid of what people would say about me and, let me tell you, it got me nowhere! Despite what the shows will tell you, most of us will never see the people we went to school with unless we’re really close and make an effort to keep in touch. Why spend so much time worrying about people you might not even remember a few years from now? If there’s something you’re dying to try out- do it. Don’t worry about failing… that’s how we learn and find out what works and what doesn’t work for us.

Beware the muse with a chip on her shoulder.

Muses are often called uncooperative, grumpy, lazy beings who abandon a writer when they're needed most. Now, one of them has decided to tell their side of the story. Meet Clarissa, a muse who has spent centuries trying to inspire artists who sometimes are too stubborn to listen to her.

What is your muse trying to say to you? Clarissa might just be able to answer that...

Welcome! Launch of Write Indie: Musings Of a WriterGeek

Hello Everyone... Welcome to Write Indie! This is...well, my own personal blog. I have no delusions that right now, that there is actually anyone reading, but myself and maybe a family member or two:) But that's okay, I decided to begin this blog as a seperate area from my IndieWritersReview and IndieReview Behind The Scenes...as a place where I dictate my journey on finding my voice and finding my path as a writer. The other two spots are to celebrate my love and desire to champion others on this same path, to be their cheerleader...many times as writers we get joy in knowing that someone...even one person has really and truly enjoyed their story...and when we write, at times we write for them...that one person.

So IndieWritersReview and IndieReview Behind The Scenes are the cheering grounds, where I dig in, with so many other wonderful people... shine the spotlight on very talented authors and musicians.

Here I will step out of the spotlight, and strive to learn and grow, so that I can share my voice and the stories in my head to others. So this is not a place to shout and celebrate, but to sit quietly, and gather together all the aspects of writing, marketing and publishing, to ensure a solid foundation for a career I have wanted all my life.

Now there will be some random, just for fun posts...shoot probably quite a few:O)

Okay, here and there might be some shouting and spotlighting too!:O)
